Since 2017 Sparkle’s "Federated Cloud Services" is registered in the IDEntity Management (IDEM), the Italian Federation of Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure for the Research and Education Community, managed by GARR.

As a consequence, Sparkle is also federated with eduGAIN, the inter-federation service connecting identity federations worldwide.

Thanks to this federation and to the adoption of an Identity Management platform, based on the industry standard protocol SAML2, Sparkle can grant students, professors and researchers access to the Service User Interface without having to sign in with specific username and password but using their own institute existing managed identity providers.
